Welcome to our web site. We hope you will visit us regularly.

We are a small school situated in the village of Monkton which is in Thanet, Kent.

At the present time we have 109 pupils ranging from 4 to 11 years. The children are divided into four classes.

The original school was purpose built in 1872. This building has recently been extended and modernised. The extended building now comprises of four new classrooms, library, ICT suite, offices, meeting room, staff room, Inclusion Office, Preparation and Planning room, Kitchen and a hall all on the same site.

In 2007 we celebrated a very sucessful OFSTED inspection. The registered inspector Carole Skinner reported that "Monkton is a good school with a number of outstanding features. Despite the upheaval of a major rebuilding programme and much energy having to be directed to this, good leadership and managment have ensured that pupils have continued to benefit from a good quality curriculum, good teaching and exceptionally high levels of care, support and guidance"

She also noted that "the pupils personal development and well-being are outstanding. Their behaviour is exemplary".

Our area of improvement had previously been identified by us in the school's Self Evaluation. As we move into our new building we will be able to focus on these areas and continue to improve the opportunities and learning for our children.

At the Kent Walking Bus Awards 2006  picked up the Award for the Top Walking Bus in Kent.  We also won a joint Award for Top Co-ordinator and Top Walking Bus in the Dover and Thanet District.

In 2007 and again this year we won the Top Walking Bus Award for the Thanet District.

We are very proud of this achievment and would like to thank all our children and parent volunteers for supporting us in enabling the children to have a healthy start to their mornings!

Our Walking Bus leaves Parsonage Fields at 8.30am and Seamark Close at 8.35am every morning. Approximately 98% of the village children now walk to school.

The Walking Bus has been running every school day morning since 3 October 2005.  We now have 75 children walking with  the bus and  over 25 adults volunteers, if you add to this  the 11 children walking from other parts of the village it means that just over 90% of our children are walking all or part of the way to school every day!

This success of our Walking Bus is seen in the lack of  traffic in the mornings in Monkton Street.
