Christmas Raffle

The raffle was drawn after the Performance of Pinnochio.   We raised a total of  £248.45 - THANK YOU - we will be using this money to purchase gardening equipment for our allotment.

Christmas Bazaar

Thank you to everyone who kindly donated good to the Bazaar.   We raised a total of £342.85 from this event.   This money will be used to subsidise school trips during the coming year.

Canterbury Cathedral Visit

Class One will be visiting the Cathedral to make comparisions with the local church, visit the crib and experience the awe and wonder of Christmas at the Cathedral.

Anti-Bullying Week - 17 to 21 November 2008. Look in the Links Section for the site link

During this week the school will be focusing on PSHE Activities relating to bullying.

Could you help us by allowing your child to complete an anonymous on-line 'Safe at School' survey on their perceptions of bullying. This will help us to identify any issues and needs they may have.

Once the link has been made could you leave your child to complete the survey in private, as you may inhibit any responses given.

School data will not be shared with any other agencies.

School Book Fair

The bookfair took place during the week beginning the 17 November.   Each Class was able to purchase £75 of books for their library with the commission.

Cross Country

Several children toolk part in the Cross Country race held at Newington School.

Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival took place on Monday 29 September.   Children donated goods and  produce from home and the school allotments to fill Harvest Gift Bags.   These were later distributed to residents in the village by Year 6 pupils.

Year 6 have been taking part in the BT Communications project.   They will be presenting their work to the whole school in Assembly.

The annual Sports Day took place on the afternoon of  18 June 2008.   Strawberries and Cream were served by the PTA.  Everyone had a good time

Enrichment Week

The Enrichment Week theme this year is travel.  Each class have taken a form of travel to study.  Theatre, Art and Orchestral groups will be working with the children during the week.

NUT Strike - Whole School Open Today

School is open as normal today.  Classes 3 and 4 need to bring their wellies/trainers as you are visiting the Thanet Earth Site.

Canterbury Archaeological Trust have invited  Classes 3 & 4 to visit their site to view their archaeological finds

Sports Relief Day

Children will be taking part in sporting activities in school throughout the day and raising money for Sports Relief.    All money raised is spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people living in the UK and across the world's poorest countries

Multi Skills Sports Club

The Multi Skills Sports Club started after school today.   This club is run by the Thanet Schools Sports Partnership.   The club aims to develop sports skills and  will run every Wednesday after school for 26 weeks.

Children's Xmas Bazaar

The Childrens Christmas Bazaar  was held in the hall on this afternoon.   We raised £400 for the School Fund, this money will be used to subsidise school trips and any extra class events that take place during the school year.   Thank you to everyone who donated to and supported this event.

Carol Service

Our first Carol Service in the new hall was well attended by  Staff. Parents, Grandparents, Friends and Villagers

 

The Christmas Raffle was drawn after the service.  The raffle raised £410 which will be used to purchase a mobile food technology table and cooker.

The whole school took part in a Skip2bFit Workshop on Wednesday 21 November 2007. Skip2bfit Skipping Workshops are not just about skipping as they combine skipping with numeracy, science, IT and Healthy Eating. Everyone had a great time and we were given free blueberries and recipes for blueberry smoothies

Open Day

Mothering Sunday

To celebrate Mothers Day the PTA sold baskets of flowers to the children to give to their Mums on Sunday. Children also made Mothers Day cards in school during the week.

Red Nose Day/Class 4 Visit Imperial War Museum

Red Nose Day today. Class 4 visited the Imperial War Musuem and the rest of the school dressed in clashy clothing. 120 Red Noses were sold in school. The total raised for Red Nose Day so far for the non uniform day is £32.

School Valentines Disco - 6pm to 8pm

The disco will be held in Monkton Village Hall. £2.00 entry - just turn up on the night. Pre-school children must have parental supervision. There will be a Tuck shop & Teas & coffees available to purchase.

All pipes have defrosted. So everyone should be back at school today. Please remember to take your wellies and PE Kits home with you this afternoon.

Closed Today

Once again we are closed due to frozen pipes. Unfortunately this is because the school is using temporary toilets whilst we are being rebuilt and it is impossible to drain the pipe uphill! We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. We will post again after 2pm today to let you know if we are able to open tomorrow. If we are to remain closed we will inform the radio stations. Please listen to Radio Kent, TLR or Invicta Radio for information in the morning. If you do not hear us mentioned, then send your children to school on Friday 9 February.

School Closed due to frost

School was closed today due to the temperature falling to -8 in Monkton over night. All waterpipes to the temporary toilets and classrooms are frozen. Unfortunately with more cold weather expected it is unlikley that the school will re-open tomorrow.

Exodus Project

As part of the Margate Exodus Project Year 4 children were visited by Martin Cheek (Mosaic Artist). The children made mosaic's with Martin based on the Ten Commandments. To visit Martin's website click on the link in the children's section.

Walking Bus

The Walking Bus is now open to all children attending the school. The bus has been split in two. Parsonage Fields Bus leaves at 8.30am and Sea Mark Close leaves at 8.35am.

The school was awarded a Bronze ECO Schools Certificate in July. This means that we are taking steps to improve the school environment following our annual review.

KS2 Fruit n Veg Scheme Launched

The Healthy Schools Group launch their Fruit n' Veg Scheme to all childen in Key Stage 2. Fruit and vegetables are sold at 10p per item to children in Classes 3 and 4.

Clearance of Pond Area Completed

In November last year we allowed our pond to drain naturally so that all the minibeasts could find another place to live. The pond area was cut back in the early spring and the final clearance of ivy and dead trees was completed today. This area is now ready for the builders.

KCC Rubbish Lunch Invaders

The School participated in a Rubbish Lunch Project put together by The Clean Kent Campaign, Eco Schools, War on Waste, the School Fruit & Vegetable Scheme and the Healthy Schools Team. The Rubbish Lunch Team visited schoo twice over three weeks to carry out a Lunch Box Audit and workshops on composting and packaging waste.

Puffin Book Club - £5,000 Prize

The school have won second prize in the Puffin Book Club "Win A Library For Your School" competition. Staff will be busy picking new books for the Library for some time!

School Modernisation Programme

As part of Kent County Council's Modernisation Programme Monkton School will be getting replacements for all it's temporary buildings. Architects are due to visit the school during the Autumn Term

Monkton Do It Again!

Once again Monkton CEP School has achieved excellent results in this year's Sats tests. Year Six achieved 100% in all three assessments! This is an amazing achievement given that Monkton is such a small school.

Once again Monkton have topped the Performance tables for this year's Key Stage 2 SATs. It is an amazing reflection of the hard work and dedication given by, pupils, staff and parents. Well done to all concerned! Monkton is truly a school to be proud of!
