Newsletter Term 4 2007/08

Dear Parents and Governors,

 Sport Relief

The school took part in Sport Relief on Wednesday 12 March 2008.   All classes took part in circuit training and various activities took place including making sock puppets, a tiddlywinks challenge, speed stacking and skipping.   The total raised for Sport Relief for this event was £284.20; this includes the sale of the Sport Relief Socks.      Well done and thank you.

World Book Day  - 6 March 2008

Your child brought home a Puffin Book Club Leaflet recently. Attached to this is the World Book Day £1 Voucher.       Children can put their Voucher towards the purchase of books from the Puffin Book Club Leaflet.  Please ensure that you return your orders by Tuesday 18 March 2008 at the very latest.

Multi Skills Sports Club

A Multi Skills Sports club aimed at Years 3 and 4 has been taking place on Wednesday afternoons since the middle of January 2008.   After the Spring Holiday the club will resume aimed at Years 1 and 2.   More details regarding this Club  will  be sent to Class 2  in due course.

School Council

Two members of the Monkton CEP School Council joined other school’s Council Members at an information day on Leisure Activities and Tourism in Thanet.   The Joint Schools Councils gave their opinion on activities and tourism for younger people in the area.

Inter- Schools Maths/Science Challenge

Members of Class 4 took part in a Maths/Science Challenge held recently at The Marlowe Academy.   We didn’t win anything but had good fun.

ECHO Group

The Echo Group held a meeting on 12 February 2008.   At the meeting they started work on the ENCAM Audit.   Once this is completed and the group have written an Action Plan, the school will be able to apply for its first Eco Green Flag.   The school already has the Silver Eco Award, but the Green Flag is the ultimate accolade for an Eco School and in order to gain the flag the school must fulfil lots of different criteria from recycling to global learning.

Tree Planting

Five Silver Birch trees were planted by the children on the school field on Thursday 28 February 2008.   Each Class has responsibility for a tree with the fifth tree being the responsibility of the staff.   The trees have been planted to replace trees removed during the build. A £75 grant from the Woodland Trust was received to help purchase the trees.

Hedgerow Planting

The school applied for 2 Hedgerow Packs from the Woodland Trust.   Approximately sixty trees were planted in the gaps in the hedgerow created by the building works. I would like to thank Mr Stephens (Class 1 Parent) for re- planting the hedgerow for us.

Education for All Trust

We have donated all our surplus furniture, working electrical and computer equipment to the charity Education for All Trust.   The Trust is committed to redistributing and recycling unwanted school furniture and equipment to under-privileged schools in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe .   By supporting the Trust our school has avoided sending any of this still useful working equipment to landfill.

Brain Training and Drama Clubs

Members of Class 4 have the opportunity to take part in two new clubs.  An after school Drama Club takes place on Thursdays and a   lunch time Brain Training Club takes  place at lunch time on Fridays.

After School Club Collection

Can I remind everyone that if your child is taking part in an after school club, they must be collected from the Courtyard at the end of the Club.

Re-labelling

Can I remind you the check that all your children’s school garments still have labels in them and that if they are written that they are still legible. Thank you

Safe Parking

Could I please remind everyone of the importance of parking sensibly before and after school:

Please do not to park on the narrow section of the road running towards the Foxhunter Caravan Park

Do leave enough room for pedestrians and people with babies in buggies to walk safely to school.

Do not obstruct our neighbour’s driveways or cars.

Do get your children out of the car on the kerbside of the road.

Please remember to look out for small children when opening your car doors.

Please help us to keep our children safe.   Thank you all for your co-operation in this matter.

Free School Meals

Your children are entitled to free school meals if you receive any of the following benefits:
